There are a few methods available that will allow you to play burned games (more commonly referred to as 'backups') on your PS2. All of them, however, require a bit of know-how and some effort on the user's part. The simplest way would be to use what is called a 'Swap Disc.' These disc can be used to play backups or imported disc (game or DVD) from any region. It's worth pointing out that this method will only work for the PS2 Slim, not the older, discontinued models.
Power off the PS2. Set the PS2 on its side. Unscrew the 6 screws that hold the casing together. Take the casing off.
Find the small cap at the top right of the PS2. It will be on the back of the motherboard. It will be near the word 'reverse' on the motherboard. Cover the cap entirely with tap.
Reattach the PS2 casing.
Open the disc top. If you have a disc inside, remove it.
Roll up a small ball of tissue and place it in the hole on the bottom right where the disc top latches onto when it closes. Open and close the top a few times to push the tissue inside. This will allow you to use the slide tool (which we will get to next.).
Turn the PS2 on. If the burned game is a DVD, insert the Swap Magic DVD. If the burned game is a CD, insert the Swap Magic CD.
Use the slide tool when asked on screen. Insert the burned game you want to play when prompted. The game will start as normal.
